An exploration of nostalgia and escapism, this collection evokes the texture of 1980s synths, hazy arcades, and the wonder of early video games. Recorded with a raw, analog charm—much of it on cassette—SNOWGLOBE immerses listeners in its dreamy, textural soundscapes.
For SNOWGLOBE, Sonaura draws inspiration from the artificial worlds of gaming, particularly their invisible boundaries and surreal aesthetics. He recalls the obsession of trying to push past those “clipping” edges in old driving and flying games, where physics warped and the mysterious, unreachable landscapes beckoned. These experiences shape the album’s ethereal, off-kilter tone.
At its core, SNOWGLOBE contemplates the fragility of our world—be it the sociopolitical structures around us or the confines of a simulated existence. The snow globe becomes a fitting metaphor: a beautiful yet finite space, simultaneously comforting and unsettling, where we exist, dream, and question.
